Singer-songwriter Lydia Ford will officially release ‘Bittersweet’ August 24. CelebMix premieres the new track right here, right now.
“Bittersweet” relates the tale of brief, intense love failing to attain fruition, mirroring the bittersweet savor of latency with the ache of transience.
Originally from Mayo, Ireland, Ford grew up in family saturated in music. Her sister played Rachmaninoff every Saturday, while her mom listened to Bruce Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac. Motivated by punk-pop’s Avril Lavigne, Ford started playing the guitar at the tender age of nine. Unsurprisingly, she soon began writing original music and lyrics.
Later, Ford moved to New York City, where riding the subway influenced her music more than the Emerald Isle. Her sound revolves around electro-pop, while her lyrics reflect an ironic sense of humor. Utilizing her bedroom studio, she is constantly investigating new fusions of synths, strings, and electric guitars. Collaborating with the German production duo known as Steam Phunk, her music captured beau coup national airplay on Ireland’s radio stations, and propelled her Spotify streams to 5,000 per month.
“Bittersweet” opens with surfacing, spiraling synths flowing into a tight electro-pop groove. A resonant bassline balances the pulsing rhythm against the muscular, dark-tinged, evocative colors of the synths. Flavored with traces of EDM filaments, the music throbs with intensity.
Ford’s voice, elegant and affluent, exudes indulgent tones colored with spectral sonority. Potent with elusively wistful timbres, it’s a voice laced with smooth textures and resplendent sonic depth. Ford definitely has it going on in the vocal realm, velvety with points of luminescence.
“Bittersweet” is anything but bitter, chock-full of mellifluous tones and alluring harmonics, along with an infectious rhythm. Don’t miss “Bittersweet.”
