Don’t get me wrong, I actually like the fact that Lady Gaga’s latest incarnation is “old-school glamour.” But I don’t really understand why she was at the Emmys to present an award? Even Richard Jenkins was like “Why am I getting an award from Lady Gaga?” Gaga wore this structural Brandon Maxwell gown in black. I honestly love it. The cut is spectacular, it’s flattering, the structured piece at the side of the skirt is interesting and she looked great overall. If I’m nitpicking, it’s only that she probably could have used a few more pieces of jewelry, like one or two big cocktail rings, possible some bigger earrings. But otherwise, her styling was on point. This is probably the prettiest/classiest she’s ever looked. Well done, Gaga.
Speaking of keeping it simple and classy, I also loved Kate McKinnon’s simple Badgley Mischka gown. I feel like many of comedienne ladies are wary of going full-throttle fashion girl, and they struggle to find a happy-medium of looking pretty but not trying too hard. This is a great compromise. Kate’s dress was flattering, she kept her hair and makeup simple and she seemed very comfortable.
And here’s Allison Janney in La Bourjoisie. I hated this dress. Allison would have benefitted from taking a cue from Kate and Gaga (I can’t believe I just wrote that) and gone for something simpler. This is more pageant-girl than anything else.
